One of my hobbies is creating music. As a musician my main instrument is the violin, but I also play around with guitars and keyboards. To make these tracks I used multi-tracking software and a midi keyboard to record and arrange software instruments and also have a rudimentary mic / mixer set up to record various live instruments (including the violin). Whereas previously I was using software called Garageband, I am now using Logic to arrange and record my music - a semi-professional tool that has allowed me to give a greater depth to my compositions.

Lo-Fi Versions

Hi-Fi Versions

Sakura
My trip hop take on a traditional Japanese song.

Heartache March
A building, orchestral trip hop piece with live violin.

Twilight Footstep
Another orchestral trip hop song with a running Japanese-style step that gives way to some live violin towards the end.

The Walking Dream
Electronic beat with an erhu-sounding instrument (actually violin with a digital effect applied) in the 2nd half.

Adagio For The Fallen
A slow string ensemble piece with a piano melody, set to a chilled-out beat.

An End To The Story
A straight up classical piece with a slightly dramatic feel.

Underwater Romance
A classical piece with a soft, heartbeat-like rhythm in the background.

  1. Jon, You are such a complex creature. This music really moves me. I’m impressed! Will you marry me? Oops, wait… I’m already married! Looks like you’ve dodged the bullet THIS time.

  3. Came across your site on a late night surfing run. Excellent music. Great articles. Great humour. A man of many talents. My wife (who’s French) noted our son has physical (facial) features very similar to you. Just what the world needs, another Yongfook clone! Just kidding. Keep up the good work.

  10. Hey mate, Just wanted to say thanks for the music -listened to the first 3 and am downloading them all now. U remind me of my Eurasian mate here in Australia - bitter, twisted, yet mildly amusing & self deprecating. And yes, he too is a pretty boy and has an ego the size of a house - in a good way of course.

  13. […] I need better recording equipment than this cheap “NSTel” microphone. Which is good for nothing other than Skype. Was trying to add some guitar strums to Heartache March. The end results were nothing short of horrible. Too much bass. Sounds like a ricer parked his car loaded with subwoofers in the boot right in the studio and started blasting. […]

  14. Jon, Your compositions are comparable to those of award-winning composers, if not better. Your music is beautiful and I become so relaxed listening to it. Please! Make more music or publish an album!

  34. You should consider using real musicians for your music. It will cost you some $$ but the results will be more appealing and more moving that using Logic or Garageband. Also it will add a legitimacy to your work (which you clearly deserve) to have you music performed rather than played. I’ve been interested in classical music combined with live drum machine or DJ for a while and it seems like that’s where you’re going with your style. Just something to think about.

I’d be willing to play for you anytime.

I found you while searching to see if Ochestral Trip-hop existed, I was interested in writing a piece of music in that style! Your page was the first on the list of sites, I’m glad it was, I really enjoyed listening!
