The All New Yongfook Blog!
It’s been a long time coming, but here it is. The new, all-singing, all dancing, all-pumping-fist-triumphantly-in-air Yongfook blog! Now with 8000% more cowbell. However, this isn’t just a visual brush up. Not only are there some new features, but really this new design represents something of a paradigm shift in how I present myself to the internets. Tantalisingly, I will elaborate on that in a later post.
For now, lets have a look at some of the new features (feechars) you can play with on this updated site.
Reader Polls
On the homepage there is now a little poll for you to click and vote on whatever idiotic, sex-oriented question (from time to time they may have a more serious theme) I want you to answer that week. Think of it as a way for all of us to get to know each other better. After reading some of the recent blog post comments, I think this will prove to be a useful tool in discerning the proportion of gay male yongfook readers who want to stab my face and make sweet, tender love to my still-spasming corpse - and the proportion of straight, hot females who want to do the same.
Tools for Stalkers
The green list on the sidebar represents outgoing links to popular websites such as flickr, youtube and digg. This list gets automatically updated every time I do some action on these websites. Actions that get recorded are:
- when I post a new photo to flickr
- when I digg an article on digg.com
- when I favourite a video on youtube
- when I add a recipe to Open Source Food
This is extensible, so I can add more web services to it later. I might even consider packaging this up in a wordpress plugin if people think it is cool. I was inspired by (that is to say, I ripped the idea off of) Facebook’s “News Feed” where it shows you your friends’ internal Facebook activity in a similar manner. I like the idea of keeping others informed of my activity, without me having to do anything like manually add notifications. I’ll have to watch out though as it is currently not filtering anything out so if I’m drunk and alone on a saturday night and favourite “18 Year Old College Chick Webcam Bellydance Nipple Slip Dramatic Chipmunk” on youtube, you’ll all know exactly how I spent my weekend.
More Information
Not sure whether the unwashed masses (that’s you, dear readers) will appreciate it or not, but my blog will begin to house a lot more information leaning towards the professional side. For example that means my work history and CV will all be available online for you to scrutinise. Why? Well, I am of the mind now that I am so entrenched in / in love with this industry we call the interwebs that it is now pointless to try to prevent my personal blog from being influenced by my work - not just my personal projects, but my professional life working in the industry. That doesn’t mean I’m going to bore the tits off everyone with articles about the web, it just means I want my blog to say more about what I actually do, and that fricking great big tag line at the top was one of the first steps towards that :)
