So long and thanks for all the bile

Just a quick post. I’m at the airport surfing on the intarwebs (WTFOMG IT’S NERD BASHING TIME!!12#) and will be leaving Singapore for Tokyo soon - a very short trip. Today I spent the entire morning running around taking photos to make HDR composites, and also wandering around Chinatown getting coaxed into spending S$50 for like, a toy shoe on a keyring that the guy said was a magic toy shoe.

Singapore has left a somewhat sour taste in my mouth this time - that sour taste being the stomach acid, bile and remnants of chili sauce in my projectile vomit. I’ve been ill for the majority of the time I’ve been here and I think it’s down to a combination of overeating and also how much oil, spice and sugar is in the food here, compared to Japan. I think my stomach has acclimatised to the more subtle “raw fish penis with a side of AIR so you can appreciate the true and awesome delicate taste of fish penis you filthy round-eyed viking!!!@3″ Japanese food preparation ideology, as opposed to the food in Singapore; a country where McDonalds will offer you chilli sauce with your fries.

I still love the local food here - I guess next time I’ll just have to pace myself. Say, 4 meals a day.

As usual, these pictures are best viewed in their LARGE state. More on my flickr page.

The above is by far my favourite shot of the set - makes nice wallpaper, I reckon.

See you gits back in The ‘Kyo.

  1. I agree. The last pic is the best among all. You should also take photos of Fullerton and make it look like a ghostly mansion or something. Just a thought. =P

  2. Btw.. Sorry to hear about the bile. I imagine you looking like Merlion standing over the toilet and puking of guts out. That would have been quite a sight..

  3. Wish I knew you were in Singapore! I just came back for a short reunion and was also having a hard time readjusting myself with the climate and the food. Half the time my tummy didn’t feel good. I forget how violent some of the chillis can be! :D

  4. […] Like the infamous YongFook, Singapore has left me with a bad tummy. I didn’t get the privilege of puking (like him), but I did have a wonderful time revisiting the loo over and over again. Having lived off the relative safety of American food for so long, my body tends to forget what real Singaporean chilli tastes like. A crystal clear Tom Yum soup at Food Republic in Wisma Atria might seem harmless at first, but one sip was enough to make me curl into my seat with tears of joy and suffering. […]

  5. Fantastic photos. The colouring in the Old Temple photo looks as if it’s peeled from an anime. Nice.

  6. Wah Kevin. Fancy meeting you here on YF’s blog! :P (P.S>I’ve got my Moo cards today! Thanks for your recommendation! :P) Hey, you visited Food Republic too eh? :) I recommended that place to YF but I don’t think he went near it. :)

Anyway, YF, great shots of Singapore and hope you enjoyed your trip, despite the puking and all. :)

  7. I went to Food Republic twice! They had pretty good hokkien mee there, served in a dried banana leaf.

That was the first thing I blasted out of my rectum after arriving. Ahh, memories.

  11. Nice pictures! I like the Old Temple one best as it’s the brightest ^_^ The last pic was cool, but unfortunately the first thing that came to mind was “Wah-lau-eh!! DURIAN!” Apologies.. You can take the Malaysian out of the region.. but you can’t make her change.
