Xbox Lounge in Tokyo
By a mysterious quirk of fate, I’m now writing for Gizmodo as their Tokyo correspondent. Gizmodo have asked me to help keep them up-to-date with all things Japanese, and haven’t said anything about the maximum amount of times an article can contain words like “testicles”. My first article with them is about Microsoft’s new advert / moneypit / two fingers up to Sony / cafe thing in the expensive Harajuku / Aoyama district of Tokyo, a stone’s throw away from stores like Burberry, Gucci, Prada etc.
Microsoft, you put your giant game advert in Aoyama. That’s like the World Wrestling Federation opening up a shop on the Champs Elysees. You could only find a more inappropriate position for the Xbox Lounge if you smashed down the emperor’s palace and built it there instead, whilst all the time calling him “Ching Chong Chinaman Charlie” and beating his wife about the face with your penis. I’d like to think the idea to build the Xbox Lounge in Aoyama was part of a large, calculated decision-making process that I wasn’t privy to — but I have the sneaking suspicion that it’s the fault of some western Microsoft executive who got off the plane and boomed, “ok so this is Tokyo huh? Cool. What’s the most EXPENSIVE bit of land we can get?”.

Tokyo bereau chief… that’s quite a title!
Wow, small world. I was just wondering who did the Happa Japan site and followed it through to you, then Gen mentioned that he knew you… and then I see your name on my daily Gizmodo visit!
Now with the wonders of RSS, I can follow your meteoric rise to Internet stardom, a la Mahir.
Best of luck, and so far your Gizmodo posts are 1 for 1 in making me laugh milk through my nose.
Great site design & photos, by the way.
Hope they’re paying you…
Seeing your revamped site makes me hungry. For food that it.
