being a slob

Good weekend. I now have a Gameboy Advance SP. Bask in its almighty excellence.

Continuing the geek / hermit theme, here is a short guide on how to be a disgusting Friday night slob in Japan.

Step 1:

Procure 2 Bento’s from Hokka Hokka Tei. HHT is the all-purpose, fast-food, take-away-only franchise across Japan that is constantly coming up with new additions to its menu and, god bless them, serves incredibly cheap eats. The downside to this is that the servings are of the awkward size by whereby 1 Bento is not enough, and 2 is slightly too much. In the interests of slob-ism, we must buy 2. A good tactic is to purchase a favourite menu stalwart and one of the special, usually meaninglessly named, limited promotional Bento’s. In this textbook example, I have gone for fried rice, and a helpfully indecipherable “tatsuda” box set (the kanji means ‘dragon field’, although Im pretty sure the meat used is chicken. Although, dragon probably does taste like chicken).

Race home as fast as your k-car will carry you, and plonk the Bento’s on your floor. Admire their beauty and give thanks to the deep-frier and bottle of msg whom no doubt had a fundamental hand in their creation. Smash gleefully into mouth using disposable chopsticks and spoon as provided.

Step 2:

Drink copious amounts of beer to aid digestion of the meal, whilst watching Japanese TV. Switch off brain.

  1. yep, I love the Hokka chain as well, just wish I could find their website, as the URL they provide is wrong.
